Malaysia – The parents of a deceased boy who got his COVID-19 virus immunisation more than two weeks ago are begging the Ministry of Health for an explanation.
In tears, they say they are helpless and they want to find out why their 13-year-old son collapsed and died 18 days after receiving his first immunisation dosage.
They demanded answers from all parties involved, saying they fear that the perfectly healthy youngster died as a result of the immunisation.
Rivenesh Kumar, according to his parents Naresh Kumar and Vijayarani Govindan, received his first dosage on January 16 in Putrajaya.
Vijayarani told a Malaysian news portal that both the parents were taken aback when the reason for the death of Ravnesh Kumar, their only son, remained unexplained despite an autopsy.
Last week, the health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the ministry was looking into the death of the 13-year old boy.
Dr Noor Hisham told the local media that the ministry was looking into the boy’s parents’ accusations, but that he wanted to review the post-mortem results before commenting any further.
He said according to preliminary investigations, no reports were filed to the National Pharmaceutical Regulatory Agency.
He added that the Ministry performed all necessary tests, including a postmortem but have to wait for reports to get a better picture.
He also said he could not explain the death of the teen without seeing the test findings and the entire report.
But until now, there has been no indication from the ministry on the reasons for the death of the youngster.
In a video circulating in WhatsApp in Malaysia, the mother is seen saying the boy has no hospital history since he was never admitted to any medical facilities.
Vijayarani says her son was an active and healthy child who did not have any health problems since birth.
Collapsed in lift
The couple’s 11-minute video blaming immunisation for their 13-year-old son’s tragic death last month has gone viral.
Rivenesh is said to have died after collapsing inside a lift on his way to a karate session with his father that day.
When his kid fainted, Naresh claimed he brought him to the hospital, but he was pronounced dead.
According to the pair, Rivenesh declined to be vaccinated but was persuaded to do so by Vijayarani, who informed him that he needed the immunisation if he wanted to study and become a police officer.
Vijayarani says the death certificate provided by Kajang Hospital cited the cause as ‘pending,’ with no additional explanation.
The doctor who performed the autopsy was able to identify his last meal but was unable to ascertain the cause of death.
They claimed it would take around six months to determine the true cause of death,” Vijayarani added, requesting a thorough probe into her son’s death.
In the video, she says as parents, “We have a right to know what happened.”
“I don’t want any other parent to go through what we’re going through… Please,” she can be heard begging at the end of the video.
