A full-time national service policeman was charged in court on 24th November for allegedly attempting to solicit sexual bribes from three sex workers.
The Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau (CPIB) said in a statement that Fahd Siddiqui, 20, was accused of soliciting sexual services from three women on the 1st and 4th of this month as payment for not reporting them to the police. It added that Singapore adopts a strict zero-tolerance approach towards corruption.
The defendant faces two charges under the Prevention of Corruption Act. Fahd had been off duty when he allegedly committed the offences.
A police spokesman said Fahd was a special constable and was removed from front-line duties after the offences were surfaced and the police referred the case to the CPIB.
“Officers of the Singapore Police Force, including national service officers, are expected to uphold the law and maintain high standards of discipline and integrity,” said the spokesman.
“We deal severely with officers who break the law, including charging them in court, or referring them to an appropriate authority for investigations,” the spokesman added.
Fahd is currently out on $10,000 bail and is expected to be back in court on Dec 15. If convicted, he faces a fine of up to $100,000 or imprisonment for up to five years, or both.
